Do You Remember ...

When all the girls in school had ugly gym uniforms?
When a quarter was a decent allowance, and You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny?

When women's nylons came in two pieces and all male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done every day and wore high heels?

You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped, without asking, all for free, every time? And you didn't pay for air? And, you got trading stamps to boot?

Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels inside the box? They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed ... and they did.

When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student when Dad got home?

How about:

  • Howdy Doody, The Peanut Gallery,
  • The Lone Ranger, The Shadow Knows,
  • Pop machines that dispensed glass bottles.
  • Home milk delivery in glass bottles.
  • P.F. Fliers, Party lines & 78 RPM records!
  • Green Stamps, Studebakers & Washtub wringers
  • 15 cent McDonald hamburgers & Penny candy

Christmas Dinner Report

By Ron Roberts

There was very little business conducted at the December meeting, but all who attended had a good time. Josh gave a report on the club's possible participation in the AMA's "TAG" program. After Josh's report, we voted to get involved with that program so Josh will contact the AMA and we should be receiving some paperwork soon.

Josh then reported that the slate of officers to be elected were those put forth by the "motion of acclimation" at the October meeting, and there were no other nominations, so it was moved, seconded and passed with no negative votes, to keep the same slate of officers for 2009 that we have at the end of 2008.

Those officers are:

  • President: Josh Price
  • Vice President: Ron Roberts
  • Secretary: Cecil Column
  • Treasurer: Giles Helbling

  • Josh then voiced his interest in having a couple of "fun flys" like we had the Sunday afternoon of the "Last Bash Fly-In". Likely, those will be at the Spring Club Picnic and one other date to be determined later.

That was the end of the business and the meeting was adjourned after proper motions were made.

We had a few glow plugs, a gallon of fuel and a $25.00 gift certificate so we held a drawing for those. I did not record who won what, but I think Randy ended up with most of the glow plugs!
