We had planned for this event to be held on Saturday, but when I got to the field a little after 7:30, there were only two travel trailers and no activity. It was bitter cold and windy. I had on long underwear, blue jeans, T-shirt, long sleeved shirt, Jean Jacket, and an overcoat. I froze to death! By 11:00 AM a few more had shown up, but only a couple of "big birds" got into the air, and some folks didn't venture from the warmth of their vehicles.
Sunday was much better! We had a fun time Sunday afternoon at the Fly-In. There were plenty of folks at the field, with most being FMAC members. Some just came to "spectate" and help with putting the show on. Of those pilots who registered for the fun "events" all were members of the Flightmasters. We had prepared to fly several different events, but the windy conditions and time restraints only allowed us to fly three of them.
We would have flown the "Limbo" event but every time we tried to put the ribbon up on the pylons, the wind would cause it to break. Next time, we will get stronger ribbon! Same for the "Toilet Paper" event, the wind was so strong at times that the toilet paper streamers would have been blown away before the planes could have gotten to them. Also, no one was interested in flying "Combat" on this day. The three events that were flown by most of the contestants were the "Spot Landing", "Climb and Glide" and "Pylon Race". |
